
Odetta Evans serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the St. John’s Family Center, capping a 15-year tenure of dedicated volunteerism and leadership at the organization. Now in her second year as Chairperson, she oversees critical community initiatives, including the Clothes Closet, and guides the center's strategic programs. Odetta’s leadership trajectory at St. John's includes roles as Head of the Education Committee and Vice Chairperson.
Odetta transitioned from a career as a Senior Human Resource Officer and Management Consultant into the field of education where she is a certified K-12 Special Education Teacher.
A lifelong advocate for community development, Odetta began her service journey at age 11. Her formal leadership career took root at 15 with the Leo/Lions Organization, where she served as Tamer, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President. Deeply committed to mentorship, she also partnered with the Kiwanis Club as a Teacher Advisor to the Key Club, guiding the next generation of student leaders.
Odetta holds a deep, vested interest in uplifting the Bridgeport community, operating under the core belief that collective civic health drives individual success. She is proud to collaborate with a compassionate, dedicated team to foster sustainable local
impact.
Odetta holds a Bachelor’s in Public Management, associate degree in Industrial Relations and Management from the University of Guyana, Master’s in Reading: Sojourner-Douglass College (Baltimore, MD), Master’s in Special Education and Post-Graduate Degree in Special Education (Fairfield University).
